finally started...week 1

YAY I finally got my cute little jalapeƱo pepper seeds!! Took me a while to get started but better late then never right?  So I got the seeds and the pot and the potting mix and I got adorable little gardening tools.  I have never grown a plant in my life so this should be pretty interesting.  Wish me luck mates.

week #3

My POPPY plant is still doing good. Hopefullly in the next few days we will see some kind of action. Once they show more action in the Jiffy i will put the jiffy into the pot and soil. Hopefully after all that itll grow healthy and i can put it outside in the sun and start growing at a more rapid speed. More pics and info to come soon,, Sorry for the slow start!!

week #2

Week Two I started off the planting and giving it the right care for it to start out with full power. I soaked the Jiffy Soil in a warm bowl of water till they absorbed all the water and grew about an inch and a half in height. After that i put a few seeds into each jiffy and let it soak in and place right. In the next 3-5 days i should start seeing a sprout and the start for a perfect POPPY!

Week One

After a rough start i figured out what im going to grow for my Growth Project. I went to a local store and talked to a man that specials in gardening and all that good stuff. The man gave me a few options and i choose California Poppy hey why not im a california kid sounds good to me. He also told me i should buy some soil, pot and a few other things to start the growing process right!. The Jiffy helps start the flower off right without overloading the seed with to much water and lossing it in the potting soil.

Personal growth part 4

Good thing this post is about caring for your plant because i got side tracked and forgot to water mine and it died soooo... planted another tomato seed and put it closer into my garden so i wouldn't forget to water it this time since it was away from the rest of my plants. I changed out the soil and put in some fresh organic type an d planted it. Hopefully i don't completely fail and kill my plant again after only a week but who knows. I have now put on a daily reminder on my phone to water. Ive looked up other nutrients i can give my plant to help them grow and give just enough sunshine to grow properly.  So first step to taking care of your plants would be to water them haha. LOOK HERE

Week 4

My radish plant is looking good so far as I look into week five.  It has finally sprouted out of the soil enough to where you can see the plant.  It has been extra hot lately so I have been giving my radish plant extra water each day so my plant does not get really dry.  The last thing I want to do is let my plant get dried out by the heat.  I like to keep the pot near the shade and the sun because if you get the plant too much sun it is bad for the radish plant.

Personal Growth Project Actually Working!

I thought I was doing everything wrong, I thought I already killed my Daffodil, I thought I will never see my Daffodil grow, but today I finally saw some improvement! Today, I dug up the dirt a little to see if I saw any good sign, and I did.  I can actually see the roots and see it grow (But I can't post a picture.  I've tried taking a picture and you can't really tell or see anything from just a photograph).   So even though it's not popping out of the dirt yet, I know that underneath the dirt the flower is growing.  So all I have to do is keep on doing what I'm doing and be patient and hope for the best.  Hopefully I can post a picture of my Daffodil so all of you in my English class can see my cool Daffodil that I've been working on! Hopefully all of your projects are going well and I can't wait to see all of your projects blossom.

Week 4 Update

My mustard seeds are growing fantastically! There are already several sprouts and they are beginning to get tall. I hope I don't have to switch pots because they grow so much. I have my mustard plants placed in full sunlight and I am now watering them every other day. I was watering them every day but I think that it was a little too much water for the little guys so now it’s every other day. They are flourishing! I can’t wait to see when they start growing into mustard leaves. Another perk of growing mustard seeds in they don't really have and pest problems. Lucky for me! I hope everyone else’s plants and flowers are flourishing as well. Happy growing to you all!

Week 4

http://www.hort.purdue.edu/ext/beginner.html

I was so excited and thrilled when I saw my plants sprouting!! After worrying about putting them in a risky spot, this definitely helps me feel a little more relieved. One thing that is very convienent about putting my plant with a bunch of others, is that the sprinkles always water them so I do not have to worry about taking care of it as much. Especially with my busy schedule it helps a lot! I just hope they continue to grow more. I am very impatient and have never grew a plant before so gardening is not really the best for me :/

Personal Growth Project 4: Plant Progress

My red radishes have made a huge progress. In just four weeks they have grown a lot. The red radishes are roughly 2 inches long. Red radishes only take about 8 weeks to grow. I'm glad I chose this plant because it is very healthy and it tastes great. I cant wait to take them out and put the red radishes in some pozole or some tacos. As the weeks pass, I have found some holes in my plants and I am not sure what it is.. Not only do i want them to taste good, but look good as well. i need to keep up the progress, and continue to keep the plant in good condition.
Personal Growth Update 4!

So far my plants still look like little sprouts, hopefully they will start developing into their mature state. Eventually, I will move them over to a spacious pot or maybe just grow them in the backyard. Did you know that Cauliflower is low in calories, fat, and is cholesterol-free, high in vitamin C, and a good source of foliate. I am going start using vitamins so my vegetable will be stable and healthy. Did you know there are different colors of cauliflower. Such as, purple ,orange, green and white. I am growing the white kind which is the most common here in the valleys of California.

Growth project post 4

So far i see nothing yet, but possibly there is something happening to my seed i just cant see it yet.  so I'll just keep watering it and hope for the best.  Any way here are some interesting cantaloupe facts:
- a cantaloupe will not ripen after it is picked, this means it will not sweeten anymore.
-Cantaloupes are related to the watermelon, honeydew, cucumbers and squash.
-the more sweet a cantaloupe smells the better it will taste.
-a cantaloupe is called rock Mellon in Australia.

"SPROUT! SPROUT!.."

Before leaving to school on September 24, I go to water my plant and WOW!, it actually began to sprout.  I chosed a great spot to put my plant in.  It gets at'least 5 to 6 hrs of direct sunlight; since, it's in a spot where I have it in plain view before coming down the steps of my 2nd floor apartment.  There sure is no way I will forget to check it's progress and supply it with the proper amounts of water.  I have a little system in the way I'm caring for my plant.  Wake up at 6am and go supply it with half a cup of water.  4 hours later, I leave my apartment, but not before checking to see if the plant took in all the water.  If all the water was consumed by the plant, then I will supply about 1/4 cup of water directly to the soil, in a circular motion.  It's now September 26, and my plant grows a bit more by the day- AWESOME! Personal Growth Project #4

My sweet peas are growing so fast and getting taller each day, I'm super excited! I'm watering them regularly and finally I came across a problem. Ants! I went to the store to buy some bug spray. So now I really have to keep a close on eye on them in case they come back and kill the flowers. Other than that I haven't really had any problems caring for my flowers, it's been pretty easy and I'm excited to see some color soon! I googled how long a sweet pea takes to bloom and it said about 3 months, as fast as they're growing right now I'm hoping it's sooner! :) http://www.ehow.com/info_8185574_once-until-sweet-peas-flower.html

Personal Growth Project #3

So I've been watering my sweet peas daily, sometimes twice a day because I live in Lancaster and it gets pretty dry out here in the desert. My flowers finally started sprouting! I was so excited when I noticed. I haven't really had to do too much besides water them. I thought I'd have to do a lot more for them but so far, not yet, so it's been pretty easy. Not really sure if I'll have to deal with insects or pests, but we'll see what happens. I'll just have to keep a close eye on them as they continue to grow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bBfHVwxdp8

Personal Growth Project #4

I've been patiently waiting for this flower to grow out, and I have about 3 weeks to see any sprouting of the flower. However there is some kind of green plant growing out because of the soil, I don't know if it's the actual flower or if it's weeds. My animals haven't been near my plant the last couple of days so it's still in place. I put the pot somewhere in my backyard where the sun hits it a lot during the day but also as the day goes by there's some shade covering it. Other than weeds growing out nothing amazing has happen to this plant. Viola

My Pumpkin is starting to grow, it’s really tiny but you can see it when you look very closely. The seed is starting to show now, although it isn’t sprouting yet. It is fairly easy to grow for the reasons being the sprinklers go on automatically and it is planted outside, so it gets natural sunlight. I do check it and make sure no trash gets around it. I have seen little worms and snails around it, which is great! They give the pumpkins seeds nourishment, which help it grow big and healthy. I’m very exited because i do know it takes much more time than other plants but that doesn’t bother me because I’m just ecstatic to grow a pumpkin.

Plants and Weeds! Oh no

Blog #4

I was so happy when I saw a little green sprout where my seeds lay. My excitement didn't last long because it happened to be a weed. I picked that nasty weed out of the ground; I applied plant food and water. Now bummed out, I go to my computer and seek out the answer to my problem. I type in," How long does it take for pansies to germinate?" It takes pansies up to two weeks to germinate, so one more week to go! I continue to water my plant on a daily, so hopefully they sprout soon.I can't wait!

Personal Growth Project #4

There's still that dirt area next to the other flowers were my daffodils should be.  I've been doing everything right.  Watering it everyday, I planted it in an area were there's not much sunlight, double checking that my dogs or any other kind of animal doesn't pee on it or dig it up.  I wanna see it blossom soon!  While I was researching what I was doing wrong, I learned some fun facts about daffodils.  Earliest known references to daffodils can be found in the writings of Mohammed way back to 6 A.D. Also daffodils are the flowers which symbolizes friendship, I thought that was actually kind of cool.  But I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.  If any of you reading this know by any chance what I'm doing wrong please don't be afraid to comment on my post and correct me.  I really don't wanna fail this project because i suck at growing flowers.

Personal Growth Project 2012

Day 4 Blog

The black beans are growing really fast. I'm happy to report that they have strong roots and the environment suits well. It is really great to see that bugs haven't feasted on the beans and I'm sure it is due to the immense number of worms in the soil. I read that the earthworms work as a natural 'scare-crow' for insects that feed on the leaves of plants. I am keeping up with watering and I am making sure I'm not over watering buy checking the soil's moisture.
http://www.budgetforhealth.com/beans/ I can already tell that the pods for the beans are beginning to form from the signs on the leaves. The stems of the black beans have almost hit 5 inches, which is very exciting, I'm looking forward to witnessing their dramatic change soon.

PGP Week 3

Week 3 and these radishes have leaves.  I am amazed how fast they are growing.  I still have not put much effort into taking care of them.  I only water them 3 times a week now.  The soil is fresh and allows the plants to grow the way they are meant to grow.  I cant wait to see what they look like at full growth.  I dont know of anyone else growing my plant but I'm sure this is what it should start to look like by now.  They appear to look very healthy and ants are crawling through my plants.
Personal Growth Project Week 3!

The growing process has begun, finally my seeds have sprouted! :) I think I may have planted to many seeds in my pot. Therefore, I might have to move some over to another pot and keep only two in this current pot in order for them to have enough room to grow. I am excited to view the final product in more weeks to come. I am attempting to keep a  steady supply of water, it is the perfect time to grow cauliflower since they are a vegetable that is grown in "cool-season" and since it has been cooling down I think my vegetable will be ready just in time before the first frost.

Week #3

25 gardening tips

After about the first day or two I immediately had to move my pot downstairs. The sun does not reach my balcony for a long period of time each day so I am afraid my flowers won't grow. Now they are hiding in bushes along the pathway of my apartment building. I have been afraid that someone will move them or take them away, but so far so good. My only issue is that if bugs or animals start to mess with the flowers once they start growing I don't know how I will be able to stop them. I can't put up a fence since it is not my yard. I guess we will just have to figure out that problem if or when it comes.

Personal Growth Project 3

So as you can tell I am not very good at this whole “growing a plant thing” but I am trying. My plants have not shown any improvement, which I believe, is not the best sign. I have been watering them and they have been getting plenty of sun. Hopefully in a couple more days or so I will start to see some improvement from them. What I did notice was that the condensation from the saran wrap has been watering the Forget-Me-Nots. I never heard of people putting saran wrap over a pot but it really does work. Cross your fingers and hope my plant grows!

Checking for Sprouting signs -"Patients!"

I don't know much about steroids, except that they cause muscle growth in humans, so my whole thought of wanting to try them on my tomato plant is a no-no.  I can say that this growth project sure has me a bit impatient.  I look at my plant every morning and still no sign of sprouting; sad.  I'm supplying it with at'least 5 to 6 hrs of direct sun and keeping the soil nice and moist.  Who would of thought that a plant would cause my patients a challenge; I sure didn't expect it.  I'm so anxious, that I just want to grab a plant any plant, and plant it in the soil; just to see some kind of sprouting, even if it is cheating- ha,ha...  Again, I guess I will just deal with my impatients and wait to see what happens.. TO BE CONTINUE Plant

A Tad Delayed: They're In The Ground!

This post is sort of delayed, but I planted my project about a week ago! They're finally in the ground in a happy environment. I just hope everything works out. I decided to plant the pumpkin seeds and a couple sunflower seeds in my grandmas garden, which I check every other day. I also decided to plant some sunflowers in a pot on my balcony that way I can monitor one plant each day. I decided to do two plants at once because I’m a little scared one might not work out so I’d rather be safe than sorry. One of my main concerns is trying to ensure that my plants get enough sun each and every day, even though I'm sure they do I'm just being a little worry wart. Other than that I’m super excited to see what happens next!

I see nothing yet in my pot, I’ve been watering it and its gotten sun.  Guess I just have to keep waiting.  Anyway while my plant is busy trying to grow I thought I would do a little research on cantaloupes.  The cantaloupe originated in Rome and made its first appearance in our country in 1739.  Also cantaloupes are a good source of potassium and vitamin c.  Also another interesting fact about cantaloupes is that they contain no starch.  Since the cantaloupe has no starch this means that it cannot convert the starch reserves in to sugar. On negative thing about cantaloupes is that if they are not properly cared for they can contract the salmonella.

I See Green

This previous week, I bought another pot to grow some more radishes. I have planted 5 seeds so I am expecting to have a small crop of 5 other radishes to be arriving possible 3 weeks after the sprouted pictures above. These are my rainbow radishes that have grown just over an inch from the soil. It surprises me that they have sprouted so soon, since there is sunshine only from recorded 7:25 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  The prosperous stems have me excited about this project already.

Growth project #3

Today i moved my plant in a better position for sunlight due to my backyard only getting sunlight during late afternoon. I walked outside to look at my plant and found a little sprout coming up from the ground. i was pretty excited to find that my plant had already poked out of the ground this early! After seeing that my plant had grown so fast already i started looking at nutrients and vitamins i could be giving my plants. i still need to look further into it but it looks like there are many different supplenments you could give your plant to make it produce larger vegetables and what not.Check It

Plants and Worms!

Blog #3

I water my pansy twice a day because the desert soil tends to be dry. I placed plant food where my seeds
lay, so they can germinate fast. The plant food looks like little pebbles. There are no harmful insects that can effect my plant; however, I did find an Earth friendly worm. A concern I have about my project is how close my seeds are to the surface because I don't want them to wash away when they are watered. Another concern I had was when my dog trampled all over the area my seeds are in. Other then that, the process seems to be coming along fine!

As you can see my grass is getting quite long, This is because when first planted or re-seeded, for the best results you must let it grow long for the roots to full develop and reach their full potential. Also due to the fertilizer, it can get much greener and more full in color. Although I know I cant get my lawn into the condition of a pro golf course or baseball outfield I have done research into special tools that you can put designs into your lawn. This process is simply done with the cutting in different directions and with rollers. The rollers a like the ones used for banking just on a bigger scale.
